Boycott this and boycott that

UPDATED AS AT SEPT 11:

See what did I say? Forwarded SMSes are usually hoaxes!!!

GEORGE TOWN: The controversy surrounding Bukit Bendera Umno division chief Datuk Ahmad Ismail has reached a farcical extent, with petrol stations drawn into the fray.

Yesterday, text messages urging people not to buy petrol from a Shell station in Greenlane and another near Gembira Parade in Island Glades were widely circulated. They claimed the stations were owned by Ahmad.

However, both station operators yesterday denied that Ahmad was the owner.

Greenlane Shell petrol station operator Hassan Farouke said he had lodged a police report.

“The SMS is not true. I am the operator of this station.”

Another Shell petrol station operator, Seraz Ahmad, said he was the operator of the station near Gembira Parade in Island Glades. He, however, does not intend to lodge a report.

“I have been operating here for the past 15 years and the people from the community here know me.”

Both Hassan and Seraz said their businesses were not affected by the false text messages being circulated.

Original post:

I’ve been receiving really funny SMSes these past few days. By funny, I don’t mean comically funny that will make you laugh. By funny, I meant weird, strange and peculiar.

First its the boycott the nasi kandar restaurants because the association is in support of Ahmad Ismail’s racist statements.

Then it is boycott some petrol station because it belonged to Ahmad Ismail.

To be followed by more boycotts of this shop or that shop, this business or that business. It was as if Ahmad Ismail owned EVERYTHING in the whole of Penang.

Wei, use your brains lar.

Sushi King belonged to Texchem which belonged to a Japanese guy. It is Japanese owned and since when did Ahmad Ismail become a Japanese? If he is Japanese, then he is also a ’squatter’ wor…

That petrol station that was mentioned belonged to a Chinese woman who married a Malay, thus a convert. And no OBVIOUSLY her husband is not Ahmad Ismail.Or else that would means he is married to a ’squatter’…

And the various other shops and businesses, please, go check your facts first before you start this boycotting business. In the end you’re boycotting the wrong people for all the wrong reasons.

Really.

People should know by now that these are all SMS hoaxes being forwarded for the fun of it. Shiish.

So, now, if I say we should boycott roast pork because Ahmad Ismail is believed to be the owner of an abattoir, would you do it?

Use some sense lar. These forwarded SMSes should be treated like the hundreds and millions of forwarded junk hoaxes forwarded by email. It belonged in the trash.

Too much money, need to waste it forwarding junk via SMS? Aiyah, give me the money and I’ll gladly help you to spend it. No need to waste it forwarding junk email.

In fact, if you are really all that riled up over that porky fella, why waste more money forwarding SMSes about that fella? Why make him even more famous? Why give him that publicity?

Think about it.
